Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich Do A Reddit AmA

From Reddit:

JehovahsHalibut

Thom, why did you steal the H from Jonny’s name?

-atomsforpeace-[S]

yes but he hasn’t spotted it’s gone yet.

I love that Reddit AmAs are a thing and that they command a large enough audience that celebrities do them regularly.

In other news, that new Atoms For Peace album is pretty neat. It’s got a decidedly more straight electronica feel to it than Radiohead, yet you can totally visualize Thom just spazzing out on stage to the music during a live set.

I’m a Social Media Community Manager!

No! Stop! I’m not looking for a higher CTR or increased engagement on your goddamn social networks! I’m not a cog in your sales machine! I’m a real person with real feelings, not a profile picture to analyze for your own amusement. My status updates say, “Check out our newest eBook!” but read between the lines; what I really mean is, “Check out me, please. I need validation!”

What’s happened to me?

McSweeney’s nails it again.

Troll-Sourcing

J. Kenji Lopez-Alt for Serious Eats on how Anthony Bourdain gets restaurant recommendations:

Bourdain’s slightly more rascally approach? Invoke “nerd fury.” Hit up any message board with an active international or travel community, and rather than simply asking them for advice, outright lie to them.

Get online and write something along the lines of, “hey guys, I just had the absolute best chicken rice at [restaurant x] in Singapore, no questions asked, hands down, everything else pales in comparison,” then sit back and enjoy the show as the internet foodie elite each jump into the fray to defend their own picks to the death. You’ll get a much bigger response, more passionate praise, and it’ll probably end up being a little fun to boot.

Love it. Who knew that “troll-sourcing” would be ever be a solution for anything in life? God bless the internet.

Trio of Pop Punkers Cover Bed Intruder

Bed Intruder quickly become ensconced in my top 10 songs of the year from the moment it was released 3 weeks ago. The autotune the news team are talented musical arrangers.

Now, Hayley Williams (Paramore), Jordan Pundik (New Found Glory), and Ethan Luck (Relient K)  have taken it upon themselves to cover the song in the only musical style they could have – pop punk.

I <3 my early-mid 2000’s pop punk bands, but this power chord heavy version lacks a certain je ne sais quoi. In fact I’m going to go ahead that the only reason this cover is noteworthy is because of the performers’ celebrity status.

What do you think? Does the fact that “the girl from Paramore” and “the guy from New Found Glory” covered the song make it any more “legit”?

I Weep For Humanity

spore creature creator box picture

Many of you may heard of Will Wright’s upcoming “revolutionary” game, Spore.

Some of you may know that EA is selling the “Creature Creator” portion of the game later this week (for $9.95) so people can get a head start on making their own creatures for the game.

A few of you may have even downloaded the leaked demo of said Creature Creator which has 25% of the body parts for you to play with.

But I guarantee that none of you are prepared to view the creation in the video above. It scoffs at all of the amateurs who hastily created penis or even goatse creatures as their first creations. Instead, it serves as the torchbearer for what the human spirit can accomplish on the internet.

(video after the jump may be NSFW if you are in a very conservative environment)

A New Internet Catchphrase Is Born

I don’t know how I missed this earlier this week, but Fox News anchor, E.D. Hill, calling Barack and Michelle Obama doing a fist bump, a “Terrorist Fist-Jab” is definitely one of the pottiest things I’ve heard all year.

Sadly, Ms. Hill has lost her show. On the bright side, she’s coined a catchphrase that will surely linger on the interwebs for years to come.
