New Miike Snow Single – “Devil’s Work”

I’m liking the driving, epic nature of this new Miike Snow single. Kinda makes me want to cut my own movie montage scene and set it to this song.

Deadmau5 Lights Up London Skyscraper For Nokia

Deadmau5’s got some of the best light show/visuals in the business with his “normal” set equipment. But projecting those visuals onto a London skyscraper? Hot damn.

The stunt was ostensibly for the release of Nokia’s new Lumia 800 phone, though calling it “4D” is a bit hokey. What, did that light travel across time? Nevertheless, that Lumia is still a mighty sexy phone and associating it with pretty colors and a popular DJ can’t do it any harm.

Show Report: Chromeo 11-17-11 @ The Wiltern, Los Angeles

One of the signs that you’ve made it as a live band is if the crowd has a custom chant for you as you take the stage or during the encore break. By that token, Chromeo has really made it, since the crowd at the Wiltern was already primed to let out a choral “CHRO-MEE-OH WHOAAAAAAAA OH” as soon as the lights dimmed. We came to the show to get our electro-disco inspired dance fix and we got what we came for, no more, no less.

There’s only so much a duo can do on stage musically and even backed up by three Rockette-like lady dancers/singers, Chromeo didn’t do much to distinguish their sound from their recordings. That’s not necessarily a knock on the band, as their recordings are very fun affairs, though it is noteworthy that the material from their latest album, Business Casual, sounded much more polished and alive. If your goal at the show was to get drunk, dance, and have a good time, you probably got your money’s worth. If you were looking for a dynamic stage presence or transcendant live music revelation, though, you’re going to to want to keep looking.

Business Insider Thoroughly Researches Musical Tastes

Ariel Sandler:

Sounds like Lions’ fans would prefer listening to the new Chrysler commercials on continuous loop than this. But thorough research has concluded people do, in fact, like Nickelback.

Did you know they are the second best-selling foreign act in the United States this past decade? Behind The Beatles?

Yup, because foreign act recording sales rankings constitute “thorough research.” I bet if I thoroughly researched this enough, I could determine that people prefer to not listen to shitty music.

From the comments on Vimeo:

Technically OK, but I really miss the times, when Rammstein videos used to have a PLOT.

New Orbital Song – Never

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard a new studio album from Orbital (2004!), but lo-and-behold, they’re back! (Hopefully with still-functioning glasses)

Great music to drive to and the video fully captures that soundscape. Strangely enough, though, I feel the urge to randomly shout “WRONG” when watching it. I wonder why that could be.

Foo Fighters headlining BlizzCon concert

Sarcasm aside, Dave is actually right in that the Foo Fighters are actually the most relevant band Blizzard has booked for Blizzcon. I mean, The Offspring, anyone? It’s actually kinda surprising that the Foo Fighters actually agreed to do it since they’re selling out arenas on their own tour this fall and don’t necessarily “need” the money.

I guess when you’re making $175 a head, you can afford to splurge on festivities entertainment. Seems almost like a waste of money since tickets for Blizzcon already sold out in May. They could have booked Har Mar Superstar to play the ‘Con and no one would think any less of them.

You know what, good on Blizzard. Getting the Foo was probably unnecessary from a business perspective, but going that extra step in delighting their fans only serves to bolster their legendary brand loyalty.

“We’re pretty sure that in the future, music historians will look back at BlizzCon 2011 as the unquestionable pinnacle of Foo Fighters’ long and illustrious career,” said Foo Fighters lead Dave Grohl in the announcement. “We look forward to living up to that prediction by bringing the Horde and Alliance together to rock the hell out of Anaheim next month.”

Download The Portal 2 Soundtrack For Free From Valve

Being the nice people that they are, Valve is offering up the soundtrack score to Portal 2 on their website for free. They’ve also got up some ringtones in both Android and iPhone audio formats along with some previews to boot.

I can’t say I’m enamored with any of those ringtones to actually use them since they’re a bit noisy for me, but if you’re into any of them, they’re there for you. What I really need is a great short SMS notification sound clip because the iPhone comes with the worst noises possible.

The soundtrack itself is innocuous enough to use as background noise while you work, although some people might find the tracks with high pitched beeping and pew pews a little annoying.

You can hit up the direct link for the ZIP file for the soundtrack here.

This Is The New National Song From Portal 2

With Portal 2 officially in stores today, we can finally hear the new The National track from the game, “Exile Vilify.” Unsurprisingly, the song sounds extremely mopey and downtempo. At least Matt Berninger writes about trials and “mind troubling.” That sorta sounds like what Portal is about.

Granted, I haven’t played through the game yet so I’m not going to comment more on the song in the game’s context. However, anyone expecting anything remotely resembling “Still Alive” needs to quickly reevaluate their expectations.
